Last month, H&H Electric & Security LLC's Fred Hawkins and his wife Cindy visited the annual Generac conference. Each year, Generac hosts a conference for electrical specialists to keep up to date on standby generators for the home. This month, we'd like to share some of what we learned from the 2022 Generac conference, as well as share a few of the other fun details of the trip!

Economic Trends

In the past few years, demand for home standby generators have increased substantially. According to Generac, generator orders increased by 50% during the 2020-2021 year, and increased again by the same amount in the 2021-2022 year. This year, Generac projects, demand will increase further, by 100%, as families and individuals who work from home seek out back-up solutions in the event of a power outage or emergency. To stay ahead of this trend, Generac has expanded its manufacturing significantly, opening new plans around the United States.

Clean Power

Generac is increasing its support for clean power solutions for generating backup power for the home. This year, Generac will be offering solutions for charging home generators directly from roof-mounted solar panels. This new technology requires the installation of new Direct Current (DC) modules to be installed which will convert the backup electricity generated by the solar panels into the Alternating Current (AC) power that is traditionally delivered to homes. These solutions generate energy with zero emissions or efficiency measures: your backup power can be generated entirely by the light of the sun.

In some cases, it's possible to power a home solely with solar cells and well-maintained batteries in the event of a power outage. As summer storms begin to ramp up, it will become more important to ensure that essential appliances, such as refrigerators or powered healthcare equipment in the home, can stay powered until grid power is restored to your home.

In order to provide this service to H&H Customers, Fred has attended a class in the General PWRCell technology and is pursuing the appropriate certification. If you'd like to know more about connecting solar batteries to your home backup system, contact us today!

Fun in Las Vegas

Once the conference was over, Fred and Cindy took the opportunity to enjoy Las Vegas a little before returning back home. They saw Lionel Richie in concert, and it was amazing! On top of the great music, the effects were also spectacular, Fred says.

Takeaways

At the end of the day, backup power is all about safety and comfort in uncertain times. As many of us continue to work from home or rely on home power for other reasons during the day, it's important to be prepared in case of an outage. H&H Electric and Security, LLC is dedicated to staying on top of all the technological leaps that will make backup power more accessible to consumers, and more environmentally friendly.
