Safety is something that should be taken seriously, and home security involves more than a system that alarms if someone tries to break in. You aren't just keeping your family safe from dangerous people, but also dangerous events. Life's tragedies are rarely planned for, so preventative measures are a great way to provide some insurance that you will be alerted if a fire starts, carbon monoxide is detected, or if an intruder breaks in. It's worth your time and research to investigate what you feel your home could benefit from most.

Smoke and Heat Detectors

Did you know that 2/3 of fire deaths occur because a fire alarm is either missing or non-functioning? These alarms can directly affect your family in a huge way. It's important to have a smoke detector located:

  • In bedrooms
  • Outside sleeping areas
  • On every level of your home
  • In living room areas
  • Near stairways
  • 10 feet away from cooking appliances.

There are several different options for smoke/heat detectors to make sure they fit your needs and keep your family safe from unforeseeable dangers.

Carbon Monoxide Detector

There are approximately 450 deaths and 15,000 hospital visits per year related to carbon monoxide poisoning. These numbers are strictly for unintentional poisoning, of which most probably could have been prevented had their carbon monoxide detectors been functioning. While smoke detectors seem to get more attention when it comes to necessary home security, carbon monoxide detectors are just as important considering this gas is odorless and colorless, yet deadly. If you already have a carbon monoxide detector, you need to ensure that it's fully functioning.

Hearing Impaired Devices/Security Strobe Light

Audible alarm systems are great for many reasons including scaring off intruders, alerting the residents within the home, and also for alerting surrounding neighbors to a potential situation. However, if a resident is deaf or hard of hearing, there are extra steps that need to be taken to provide a functional home security system. Finding proper alerting devices for the deaf is so important. While there are various options, one such way is to install strobe lights to go with the alarm system. This can help alert hard of hearing residents to danger. There are also other hearing-impaired devices that can help alert residents in different ways (i.e. high or low-frequency sounds, vibrations, etc.).

Panic Buttons

Panic buttons are another excellent choice to help maintain a sense of safety in your home. You can place these buttons in strategic places within your home. If you feel threatened or are in a dangerous situation, you can press this button. There are options to have an audible alarm go off when the button is pressed, or you can choose to go with the silent alarm which will alert the authorities without causing a commotion. These are great for both homes and businesses alike to provide an extra layer of precaution.

It's Up to You

Each family is different and may have different security needs, but it's important to seriously consider what your family could benefit from. While smoke and carbon monoxide detectors are non-negotiable, some families may or may not feel the need to install panic buttons, strobe lights, and other security measures. However, we believe that it's important to be safe than sorry. At H & H Electric and Security, we offer many security options including:
